PS133 A view of Al Nakhal's village near the foot of the mountain taken from one of Nakhal Fort's towers. |
Nakhal is in the Al Batinah region. It has a lot of "dates" trees as there is a hot spring near the foot of the mountain. Many tourists visit Nakhal on holidays to get a dip in the spring or just have a picnic near or along the shallow part of the wadi. A Fort is one famous monument in this place and it's open for tourists to visit as well. The Fort is constructed on top of a rocky hill and in some parts, the rock is part of the structure. Inside the Fort are historical documents and pieces that gives you an idea of Oman's past.

PS107 Nizwa Fort in the A' Dakhliyah region, southwest of Sohar. |
Nizwa Fort was the first Omani Fort i had visited. It is located approximately 350 km SW of Sohar. The fort was considered to be one of the biggest fort in the Arabian Peninsula having an exterior diameter of its circular structure of 48 m and over 36 m high. The fort has doors that are inches deep and above it has holes through which boiling oil could be poured over the marauding enemies.

PS035 On-going restoration of the well-visited Sohar Fort. |
Sohar Fort is located just a stone's throw away from the southern end of Sohar Corniche. It served as a defensive bastion and as lookout point in earlier days. During the Al Busaid Dynasty, it was used as an administration centre and also as seat of judicial authority. In 1993, Sohar Fort was converted as Sohar Fort Museum. Its operation, however, was suspended in 2007 as renovation started to take place. As of now, there is no news yet as to when it will resume operation.
